Arrive at the Siem Reap airport and transfer to the hotel then visit the earliest temples of the Angkor period at Roluos, including Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei for a useful chronological perspective on Angkor’s development. Lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch you will visit the biggest religious temple in the world – the magnificent Angkor Wat. Built by Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is considered a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. End the day by watching the sun set over Angkor Wat from the summit of Phnom Bakheng. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Siem Reap.
In the morning, visit Baksei Cham Krong , South Gate of Angkor Thom with its huge statues depicting the churning of ocean of milk , the Bayon temple , Baphuon, Phimean Akas, the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King , Royal Enclosure. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon you will explore the temples of the Small Circuit. The most famous among these is Ta Prohm, built between the mid 12th to early 13th centuries and is overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground making for a truly memorable site. Your visit will also include Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th Century, and Srah Srang, also known as the ‘pool of ablutions’.
This evening enjoy dinner accompanied by a mesmerizing performance of traditional Apsara dance. Overnight in Siem Reap.
This morning, travel to the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srey. The so-called “Citadel of the Women” displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art. On the way back to Siem Reap you will visit Banteay Samre, on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex and a local village to see the production of rice paper and palm wine. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Visit the Artisans D’Angkor workshop to see wood and stone carvings or visit the local markets before transferring to the airport for the departure flight.
