Arrive at the Siem Reap airport; welcome and transfer to the hotel for check in. visit the earliest temples of the Angkor period at Roluos, including Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei for a useful chronological perspective on Angkor’s development. Lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, continue to the place that many consider to be the masterpiece of Khmer architecture, Angkor Wat, a massive temple with details that include carvings and reliefs that depict scenes of Hindu mythology and Cambodian history. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Today there is an early start to catch the sunrise (optional) before returning to the hotel for breakfast. Then depart to visit Angkor Thom’s famous South Gate fo Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. From the Bayon continue on foot to the Baphuon, where you will pass by the wooden Royal Palace. Then continue to the Terrace of the Elephants where a parade used to be held for the king. Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon, Pre Rup, the mountain-temple, Ta Som, Neak Pean, a fountain built in the middle of a pool and representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake, Eastern Mebon, guarded at its corner by stone figures of harnessed elephants and Preah Khan, built by the King Jayavarman VII, a place of towered enclosures and shoulder-hugging corridors, Banteay Kdei temple.
Tonight a special Khmer dinner will be served, where your meal will be accompanied by traditional Khmer Apsara dance. Overnight in Siem Reap.
This morning, travel to the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srey. The so-called “Citadel of the Women” displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art. On the way back to Siem Reap you will visit Banteay Samre, on the eastern edge of the Angkor complex and a local village to see the production of rice paper and palm wine. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Jungle-clad Ta Prohm temple, the small twin temple of Chau Say Tevoda, Thommanon , Takeo , and Kravan temple. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Siem Reap.
Morning visit the War Museum and Les Artisans d’Angkor – Chantiers Ecole where visitors can observe students learning traditional carving and finishing techniques and visit Siem Reap’s Old Market. After lunch, drive to Lake Tonle Sap where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the water. Tonle Sap is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, the size of which quadruples during the wet season. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Today is spent at your leisure, until it is time for your transfer to the Siem Reap International Airport for your departure.
